  Dear Fred, after the retirement of our Recteur, he has been replaced by the Rural Dean Bernard LE LUELL and a Curé Guy LE HENAFF, who serve five parishes. Guy said he knew nothing of the Anglican Church, so I wrote the following, and am now going to translate it for you into English.

  Tu as dit que tu ne sais rien de l’église Anglicane et si j’écrirai des paroles pour expliquer un peu. C’est un grand sujet.

  Dear Guy, You have said that you know nothing of the Anglican Church and so I will write some words to explain a little. It is a large subject.

  Premier je commence à écrire sur le jour 28 décembre Les Saints Innocents, martyrs ue du jour : Rouge.

  Couleur liturgique qui évoque le sang ou le feu. Elle est utilisée le dimanche des Rameaux, le Ven­dredi saint, le jour de la Pentecôte et aux messes en l’honneur du Saint-Esprit, en la fête de la sainte Croix, aux fêtes des Apôtres et évangélistes, et aux fêtes des saints martyrs.

  First I begin to write on the 28th December The Holy Innocents, martyrs, a feast in the calendar here and in the Liturgy of the Church of England 1662, London; R. Clay SPCK 1863, it is written on page xiv “The Innocents”!

  Note que j’ai toujours écris ‘l’église de l’Angleterre et pas l’église Anglicane, ceci est un mis nommé pour mon pur pose, comme la famille des églises en communion avec l’archevêque de Cantorbéry contient régions de langue en plus que l’anglais et de l’Angleterre.

  Note that I have always written “the Church of England” and not the Anglican Church, which is a misnommer for my purpose, as the family of churches in communion with the archbishop of canterbury contains régions of language more than English and more than England.

  Par exemple en histoire l’église épiscopal de l’Ecosse, l’église de l’Ireland, l’église de Pays de Galles, l’église des iles Anglos normands, l’église de Manx, l’Église vieille-catholique en Pays Bas, Suisse, Autriche et al.

  For example in history the Episcopal Church of Scotland, the Church of Ireland, the Church of Wales, the Church of the Channel Islands, the Church of Man, the Old Catholic Church in the Low Countries, Switzerland and Austra and others.

  Dans ces territoires les langues étaient Ecossai, Gaélique, Cymraege, Français Normand, Manx, Flamand et Allemand. Bien aujourd’hui ils y ont des langues en plus, Bengali, Hindi, Urdu, Assamais, Santali, Tamil, et beaucoup plus, pour depuis 1552 l’intention de l’Angleterre était que « soit lu et chanté e langue vulgaire » page ix.

  In these lands the languages were Scots, Gaelic, Welsh, Normand French, Manx, Flemish and German. Today, indeed, there are more languages, Bengali, Hindi, Urdu, Assamese, Santali, Tamil and many more, for since 1552 the intention for England was that “should be read and sung in the common tongue” page ix.

  Pour le royaume de l’Angleterre il était bénéfique pour le roi ou reine d’obtenir une uniformité en langue, en liturgie et en loyautés.

  For the kingdom of England it was beneficial for the king or the queen to obtain a uniformity in language, liturgy and loyalty.

  Pour cette raison le reformé de l’église de l’Angleterre était un reformé par l’état pour l’état sans grandes changes de doctrine.

  For this reason the reform of the Church of England was a reform by the State without great changes in doctrine.

  Voir The Act of Supremacy 1534. La concerne de le roi Henry VIII était pour la survive de l’état, comme d’obtenir un garçon de la reine, si le prince de galles, et éventuellement le roi.

  See the Act of Supremacy 1534. The concern of the king Henry VII was for the survival of the State, and thus to obtain a son from the Queen, as the Prince of Wales and subsequently the king.

  Il était ex communiqué 1533 pour sa deuxième mariage à Anne Boleyn. Il était mort 1547.

  He was excommunicated in 1533 for his second marriage to Anne Bolyne. He died in 1547.

  Note que ce roi n’est pas honoré par l’église de l’Angleterre, et la règle pour mariage Chanoine B 20 OF HOLY MATRIMONY est un homme avec une femme pour toute la vie. La loi de l‘église est la loi du royaume.

  Note that this king is not honoured by the Church of England, and the rule for marriage Canon B 20 OF HOLY MATRIMONY is one man with one woman for life. The law of the Church is the law of the kingdom.

  Il ‘y a une loi civil moderne qui permet la divorce et ré mariage, et mariage entre deux membres du même sexe.

  There is a modern Civil Law which permits divorce and re marriage, and marriage between two members of the same sex.

  Son fils Edward VI 1537 – 53 était junior et sous le control de son protecteur Earl of Somerset et al, et pendent cette période l’influence Calviniste était forte dans le parlement sur l’église.

  Sa fille Mary 1516-1558 a été reine 1553 et in 1555 Reginald Cardinal Pole réconcilié le royaume à la papauté.

  His daughter Mary 1516-1558 became Queen in 1553 and in 1555 Reginald Cardinal Pole reconciled the kingdom to the papacy.

  Malheureusement Mary était sanglante dans sa politique de l’église et elle a fait beaucoup de martyrs.

  Unfortunately Mary was blood thirsty in her politics for the Church and made many martyrs.

  Sa demi sœur Elizabeth 1 1533-1602 la reine de l’Angleterre depuis 1558 suivre, et pour luis naturellement conservative et catholique ils ont des problèmes avec les calviniste puritains et les réfractaires avec le support du Jésuites, qui sont contre Elizabeth 1 comme une bâtarde et pas une reine.

  Her half sister Elizabeth 1 1533-1602 the Queen of England from 1558 and for her who was naturally conservative and catholic there were problems with the Calvinist Puritains and the Recusants who had the support of the Jésuits, who were against Elizabeth 1 as a Bastard and not a Queen.

  Elle n’aime pas les réfractaires pour la, et aussi les Calvinistes Puritains, comme elle croit que les évêchés sont nécessaires pour supporter son trône.

  She did not like the Recusants for this and also the Calvinist Puritains, as she believed that Bishops were necessary for the support of her throne.

  Elle prend un moyen voie entre les deux, mais l’opposition par les Catholique Romains agrandit, 1570 Regnans in excelsis, lui et tous leurs sujets sont ex communique et lui est détrône, avec l’amade d’Espagne 1588 le pousse vers les Calvinistes Puritains, et âpres l’avenir de l’Angleterre est déterminé comme différent de le continent!

  She took a middle way between the two, but the opposition of the Roman Catholics increased, and in 1570 “Régnas in excelsis” she and her subjects were excommunicated and she was de-throned, and with the Spannish Armada 1588 the move was to the Calvinist Puritains and thence forward the future of England was different to that of the Continent.

  It should be noted that the use of English was to promote Uniformity and thus Obedience to the Crown.

  In fact English did not become the official language of Parliament until Oliver Cromwell, and Norman French is still used in the Privy Council and les isle anglo normandes.
  The Queen like many of her predecessors is multi lingual.
