Timonium United Methodist Church Women have invited the people of St Stephen’s to join them in a “Shred-a-Thon” paper shredding event. It will take place on Saturday, April 28th, at Timonium United Methodist Church, 2300 Pot Spring Road, Timonium, from 10:00 AM to 12 Noon.
Identity theft has becoming a very serious problem these days. Roughly seven million people become victims of identity theft every year. That equals 19,178 people per day, 799 per hour, and 13.3 per minute. The incidence of victimization has reportedly soared by 80 percent between 2002 and 2003. And a survey by the Identity Theft Resource Center indicates that victims now spend an average of 600 hours recovering from this crime, often over a period of years—up from 175 hours three years ago.
Shredding sensitive documents—ones that contain bank account numbers, Social Security numbers, and Medicare information, for instance—is an important strategy for combating the identity thieves.
Here’s the deal: The documents will be shredded on the spot by Proshred Security’s mobile shredding trucks. The Methodist Women are asking for a minimum contribution of $5 to $10 per box of documents. Proshred Security’s shredding trucks are very secure. Their industrial strength shredding machines can pulverize 1,000 to 10,000 pounds of paper per hour.
