For a Civl Rights Worker
Martin Luther King memorial, sculpted by Tim Crawley, installed in 1998 over the west entrance of Westminster Abbey. From Wikipedia. Almighty God, father of all mercies: We bless thy name for those who work to make justice a reality for all of thy children, especially thy servant Martin. They have stood up amid despair, amid persecution, amid disappointment, and even amid death; but they have taken no care for themselves, because they know that thou art always with them. Grant us to see the accomplishment of this work, when justice shall roll down as waters, and righteousness as a mighty stream; for we know that weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning. All this we beg for the sake of thy dear Son Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
The secular remembrance of the Rev’d Dr King is on Martin Luther King, Jr Day, the third Monday of January, which is generally within a few days of his birthday, January 15th. The liturgical remembrance is April 4th, the day of his assassination.
