    Article 141 of the Treaty of Rome says ‘each Member State shall ensure that the principle of equal pay for male and female workers for equal work or work of equal value is applied.’Each state of the Union was required to implement appropriate legislation and the UK did so in 1970. The USA has similar legislation.
