For the Victims of the Terrorst Attack in Lahore

Merciful God in heaven: Grant, we beseech thee, peace and rest to those whose lives were taken in the terrorist attack in Lahore, and comfort those who mourn them. Give strength and courage to those who were injured, and bless those who minister unto them. Grant the people of Pakistan the resolve to carry on their lives with faith and dignity, that they may bear witness to thy salvation, and may come eventually to know the joys of thy kingdom; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Written for remembrance of the victims of the Boston Marathon bombing of April 15th, 2013, and first used on Sunday, April 21st, 2013. Reused on September 22nd, 2013, for the victims of the shooting at the Navy Yard, Washington, DC, and on too many occasions since.

Gulshan-e-Iqbal Park

Gulshan-e-Iqbal Park in Lahore, Pakistan. From Wikipedia. The park, whose name means “The Garden of Iqbal”, is named after Sir Muhammad Iqbal (Allama Iqbal), the “Poet of the East”, considered the “Spiritual father of Pakistan” for his advocacy for the founding of Pakistan. The Pakistan government officially named him a “national poet”, and his birthday is a national holiday. The park, which includes an artificial lake, a mini-zoo, and a number of amusement rides, was the site of a terrorist attack on March 27th, 2016, aimed primarily at Christian families celebrating Easter.
