O Almighty God, who didst give to thy servant Cyprian boldness to confess the Name of our Saviour Jesus Christ before the rulers of this world, and courage to die for this faith: Grant that we may always be ready to give a reason for the hope that is in us, and to suffer gladly for the sake of the same our Lord Jesus Christ; who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
¶ Or this:
O God, who gavest grace to thy bishop Cyprian to guard thy church in Africa through troublous times: Grant to all those who bear rule in thy household to labour for its stedfastness and to maintain in unity and order: through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
¶ Or this:
O God, who didst enable thy holy Bishop Cyprian to consecrate all his powers to the service of the Church even unto death: Grant that all those who bear rule in thy house may ever think of its beauty, its purity, and its honour, to build them in the time of peace and guard them in the day of trouble; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
