Pictures from Shrove Tuesday and St Patrick’s Day Suppers

Pancake supper

Happy Riley takes great delight in preparing blueberry pancakes at St Stephen's 2013 Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper.

Hardly a month goes by without at least one special event (meaning a chance to eat, but Evensong is worth coming to, even without the grand receptions that follow), and St Stephen’s has had two in the last two months.

First there was the annual Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper on February 12th. This feast featured the usual menu of regular pancakes (with or without blueberries), English pancakes (they looked like crêpes to most of us), sausage patties, apple sauce, and of course, butter and syrup. We haven’t raised the price in ages, so if all goes well, it will be a bargain again next year. Check out the photos from this year’s supper.

St Patrick's Day supper

The 2013 St Patrick's Day supper was held in the Parish Hall, and featured quintessential Irish fare.

Then there was the St Patrick’s Day supper on March 16th, the eve of the feast day. This respite from the strictures of Lent featured a menu of corned beef and cabbage, boiled potatoes, Irish soda bread, and dessert. Harp and Guinness were available, as were the usual soft drinks. We don’t always celebrate this feast—it has to fall just right between Ash Wednesday and Easter. But it’s always great fun when we do. Check out the photos from this year’s supper.
