Note the new day: the 2019 Cookie Walk is Saturday, December 14th—the *second* Saturday—from 9:00 AM until 12:00 Noon!
The Cookie Walk is St Stephen’s premier Fall community event. What’s a cookie walk? Well, shortly after St Stephen’s was founded, we held our first Christmas bazaar. A parishioner suggested we make our annual parish fund raiser a “cookie walk”. What’s that, our volunteers asked? And then he told us: “a cookie walk is a large assortment of homemade cookies that prospective buyers browse, walking down a long table stacked high with cookies”. He suggested each parish family make five pounds of cookies so we would have a wonderful selection. We would sell the cookies by the pound and let our customers mix and match their holiday selection.
We liked the idea very much and Cookie Walk was born. That first year we had over 250 pounds of cookies for sale, which sold out in less than four hours. In each successive year we have had more cookies. In recent years we have had in the vicinity 1000 pounds of cookies and our selection is unbeatable. We regularly sell out in a few hours, and there is usually a line of people waiting for the doors to open. In addition to cookies, we make homemade jams and jellies, ornaments, table decorations, and decorated fresh wreaths. (There are also bags of greens so you can make your own decorations.) We have a children’s corner, a gift table, and hard–to–find special items. Cookie Walk has been and continues to be a wonderful success. It has been a St Stephen’s favorite from that day to this. Along the way we have offered some of the most wonderful cookies in Baltimore. You can check out this year’s prices here. We never quite know what varieties of cookies will be available: that depends on the mood of our parishioners. But all of your favorites are likely to be there. We’ll also have your favourite flavors of homemade jams and jellies.
And don’t forget the vast array hand-knitted items available in a silent auction to benefit Heifer International and Christ Child Society of Baltimore. They will be on display in the hallway of the church.
Where are you located?
We’re located at 11856 Mays Chapel Rd, ad the corner of Mays Chapel and Jenifer. You can find directions and a link to Google Maps at http://www.ststeve.com/clergy-and-staff/directions/.
If there are cookies I enjoy eating, do you have recipe cards to give? If you did I would envite several groups I belong to.
Sorry not to get back to you sooner, but we had to do some searching through storage containers. No, we don’t specifically have recipe cards for the cookies that parishioners have baked, but we do have a number of specialty cookbooks, including two volumes devoted to Cookie Walk recipes. We collected recipes from our parishioners, so many of the recipes can be found in those cookbooks. We do have a few cookbooks left, and they will be available at the Cookie Walk.
