Gala Parish Anniversary Weekend

St Stephen’s is celebrating the 20th Anniversary of the present church building with a weekend of activities.

Service of Rededication: Saturday, September 20th, 3:00 PM

The church as it appeared in 2001, before the enclosure of the front porch.

The festivities begin with a Service of Rededication of the Church at 3:00 PM. And if you’ve been around for a few years, you’ll know how much the building has changed and expanded since its original construction. The large front porch was closed in to form a larger lobby—recently christened the Cadwalader Room. The parish hall (now Quimby Hall) was extended; the front office split in two, providing separate quarters for the Director of Pastoral Care and the Choirmaster; and the clergy moved to an office upstairs over the parish hall extension. (And there are plans afoot to extend the upstairs area over the “new” kitchen, to give the clergy and treasurer new office spaces, while their former office becomes a theological library.) And just recently, Don Ruthig did a spectacular job of refurbishing the chancel.

Parish Picnic: Saturday, September 20th, 5:00 PM

Following the service, at 5:00 PM, we will have a picnic on the grounds. This will be a grand repast in the typical St Stephen’s style. And kids can take advantage of yet another recent addition: the playground set at the rear of the church.

Confirmation Service: Sunday, September 21st, 10:00 AM

On Sunday morning, the 9:15 AM and 11:00 AM services will be combined into a single 10:00 AM service. Bishop John Vaughan will preside at a Eucharist and Confirmation service.

Service of Ordination: Sunday, September 21st, 3:00 PM

Finally, God willing, there will be a Service of Ordination on Sunday afternoon at 3:00 PM, at which Deacons Michael Belt and John Novicki will be ordained to the priesthood, and Sub–Deacon Wiley Hawks will be made a Deacon. And, of course, a reception will follow.
