Saint Antony of Egypt, Abbot

The Torment Of Saint Anthony (Michelangelo)

The Torment Of Saint Anthony, a copy by the young Michelangelo (1476–1564) after an engraving by Martin Schongauer (c. 1445–1491). From Wikipedia.

O Lord Jesus Christ, who saidst to thy disciples, Be ye perfect as your Father in heaven is perfect: Give us grace so to follow thy blessed Saint Antony in the way of perfection, that we may count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of thee; who livest and reignest with the Father and the Holy Ghost, ever one God, world without end. Amen.

¶ Or this:

O God, at whose call the blessed Abbot Antony left the haunts of men to enter on the solitary way: Grant to us in our day the grace of perseverance; that neither faltering, nor stumbling, nor looking back, we may press toward the goal for the prize of our high calling in Christ Jesus our Lord. Amen.

¶ Or this:

O God, who by thy Holy Spirit didst enable thy servant Antony to withstand the temptations of the world, the flesh, and the devil: Give us grace, with pure hearts and minds, to follow thee, the only God; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the same Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
