King Charles I, Martyr
Posted by petrus, on January 30th, 2015
King Charles I, after Anthony van Dyck (1599–1641). Licensed under Public Domain via Wikimedia Commons Almighty Father, who by the Apostle of thy dear Son hast taught us to obey God rather than man: Mercifully grant that, as thy servant King Charles was faithful unto death in defence of thy Church, so all kings and rulers may constantly endeavour to govern thy people in accordance with thy Holy Word; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
¶ Or this:
O God, who through the victory of martyrdom didst exalt thine anointed servant Charles from a corruptible to an incorruptible crown: Give us grace, we pray thee, so to imitate his example, that we may be worthy to be aided by his prayers; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
¶ Or this:
King of Kings and Lord of Lords, whose faithful servant Charles prayed for those who persecuted him and died in the living hope of thine eternal kingdom: Grant us by thy grace so to follow his example that we may love and bless our enemies, through the intercession of thy Son, our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
