New Additions to the Library

The latest addition to our Library is a Rite for the Consecration of Holy Oils, specifically the Oil for the Sick, the Oil for the Catechumens, and the Balsam and Oil for the Chrism. There isn’t a standard rite for any Anglican jurisdiction, and so we offer the form used at St Stephen’s. The blessings of the Oils for the Sick and for the Catechumens take place after the Prayer for the Whole State of Christ’s Church Militant and before the Preface; the blessing of the Balsam and the Oil, and the preparation of the Chrism, take place immediately after the Sanctus and Benedictus.

We have also added larger, higher-resolution pictures of the altar, first at St Matthew’s, and then at St Stephen’s, in our article on the Remarkable Story of St Stephen’s Altar. You can really see the details now (including the elf hat on “Isaac”, the Choir’s name for the lectern eagle—but that’s a topic for another post).
