Quasimodo Evensong

Join St Stephen’s Choir of Men & Boys on Sunday, May 1st (the first Sunday after Easter) at 6.00 PM for a Quasimodo Evensong*.  The service will include joyful music in celebration of Christ’s Resurrection. More specific musical details will follow in the coming weeks.

Choral Evensong, a fusion of the monastic prayer offices Vespers and Compline, is one of the greatest treasures of the Anglican tradition. Sung on the First Sunday of each month, Evensong ordinarily lasts between 35 and 45 minutes.  Visitors from all faith traditions are always heartily welcomed to join us in prayer, and all are invited to remain for a reception following the service. A freewill offering will be received in aid of the Choir’s charity: Dr Bob’s Place, a hospice for children.

* (Quasimodo Sunday takes its name from the first words of the Introit to the Mass for Easter I: quasi modo geniti infantes [as newborn babes]  (1 Peter 2:2).  Please note that the service is very unlikely to feature hunchbacked bellringers; we’re simply calling it Quasimodo Evensong because it’s delightfully peculiar-sounding.)
